Building Connections Within the Municipal Sector
For Immediate Release
November 5, 2022
The 2022 MNL Conference, Trade Show and AGM in Gander, N.L. has been an immersive, inspiring four days of building connections within the sector and with the issues that matter to our communities.
More than 300 delegates from over 120 municipalities attended 30-plus sessions across three venues, including the Joseph Smallwood Arts and Culture Centre, the Quality Hotel, and the Gander International Airport lounge. This is the first time an event of this type has been held in this historic and culturally significant space.
Our Board of Directors elections were held for regional director positions. Our regional directors are now as follows:
Labrador Director: Mayor George Andrews, Happy Valley-Goose Bay
Northern Director: Mayor Dale Colbourne, St. Lunaire-Griquet
Western Director: Deputy Mayor Roger Barrett, Reidville (acclaimed)
Central Director: Mayor Percy Farwell, Gander
Eastern Director: Councillor Keith Keating, Marystown (acclaimed)
Avalon Director: Councillor Tina Neary, Portugal Cove-St. Philips
The President, Vice President, Small Towns Director, Urban Municipalities Director, and St. John’s Director are halfway through their two-year term.
During the AGM several resolutions were adopted addressing concerns around harassment, Crown lands, federal infrastructure funding as it relates to municipalities, and monitoring requirements under the federal Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations.
“The 2022 MNL Conference, Trade Show and AGM has been a huge success. It was so great to share stories and knowledge with fellow municipal leaders, as we connect, reconnect, and work toward realizing the potential of the municipal sector, while preparing for the challenges ahead.” – Amy Coady, MNL President.
