Infrastructure funding creates opportunities across the province

September 12, 2018

President of Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador (MNL) Tony Keats says that a bilateral agreement signed between the Province and the Government of Canada give municipalities real tools to turn this funding opportunity into better roads and transit, emission reductions, and more. “The Investing in Canada plan is a historic opportunity to transform our communities,” says Keats. “We’re happy the province is leveraging this unprecedented federal funding opportunity. But turning this opportunity into real outcomes requires smart program designs that empower municipalities to move projects forward.”

The Investing in Canada Plan will provide more than $555 million in federal funding over the next decade for community infrastructure projects. Keats says he’s happy the agreement is signed, now local municipal leaders can move on to making the best use of this money. “In particular, I’m looking forward to seeing the agreement details and working with the federal and provincial governments to make the best use of this investment.”
