Municipal leaders coming to St. John’s for 69th Annual Conference and Trade Show

November 13, 2019

St. John’s, NL – Over 800 municipal sector delegates and exhibitors are convening this week at the St. John’s Convention Centre for the 69th Annual Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador (MNL) Conference and Trade Show. From November 14 to 16, mayors, councillors, and senior administrators will have the opportunity to attend 40 information and discussion sessions and visit a sold-out trade show.

“This is one of the biggest events we’ve hosted in a long time,” said MNL President Tony Keats. “We are excited to welcome 70 vendors and sponsors, and to bring our members together to talk about finding solutions to the challenges they continue to face.”

Agenda items on this year’s conference program include concurrent panels on access to information, land use planning, declining populations, asset management, physician recruitment and retention and Crown lands. MNL members will discuss strategic planning and hear from service providers in the sector on new technology and current trends.

The Premier’s Forum on Local Government, an event held in partnership with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, will be held at the Delta Hotel concurrent to the Thursday morning sessions on November 14. MNL is welcoming the Honourable Derek Bragg, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment on Thursday evening, to address members at the event’s opening ceremonies.

Annual general meeting proceedings will occur throughout Friday and Saturday, with resolution debates and elections for the positions of Small Towns and Urban Municipalities Directors scheduled for Saturday.

A full convention agenda can be found on the MNL website. Media are invited to attend all sessions.  Please present your media identification at the MNL registration booth, third floor of the SJCC, for a media kit and access pass.
