New Project Brings Public Art to 12 Communities

For Immediate Release
Aug 14, 2024

St. John’s – A dozen communities across the province are creating new public art projects made possible by Our Creative Home.

Our Creative Home, a joint project between Business and Arts NL and Municipalities NL, is providing funding for 12 municipal public art projects in the form of murals and artist residencies as part of Year of the Arts. Our Creative Home is designed to drive community collaboration and foster opportunities for Newfoundland and Labrador municipalities to champion art that reflects the diverse identities and perspectives of their communities.

Municipalities submitted 70 project funding applications. In choosing the 12 projects to receive funding, the selection committee considered many factors, including region, details of the proposed project, and more.

The following municipalities have been selected to receive an Our Creative Home grant:

Artist residency stream:

  • Wabana
  • Chapel Arm
  • Hopedale
  • Gillams
  • Cartwright
  • Botwood

Mural Stream:

  • Pasadena
  • Trinity Bay North
  • Gaultois
  • Burnt Islands
  • Stephenville
  • Englee

“We’ve only just begun to work with the applicants selected for this opportunity, and it has already been so inspiring to meet municipal teams across the province who have such generous, creative ideas and are excited to welcome arts programming into their community centres, town halls, parks, and more. I can’t wait to see these projects come to life over the next several months.” – Amy Henderson, Executive Director, Business and Arts NL

“MNL’s partnership with Business and Arts NL to bring Our Creative Home to life is exciting. With so many applications from our members to participate in the program, we know that art and community go together. It’s also a sign that more public arts funding for municipalities is needed in this province. MNL is committed to pursuing further opportunities to fund and encourage municipal art projects.” Amy Coady, President, MNL.
