Our Creative Home Municipal Mural and Artist Residency Program Launches Today
For immediate release
May 3, 2024
Our towns and cities are the home of our art and our culture. In the Year of the Arts, municipalities across the province are being encouraged to think artfully, and to apply to the Our Creative Home program, which offers grants of up to $10,000 for mural and artist residency programs.
Our Creative Home is an initiative offered by Municipalities NL and Business and Arts NL, and funded by the Government of Newfoundland’s Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, to help municipalities across the province create an artist-in-residence program or commission a mural. The program will fund projects in 12 municipalities across the province.
This program offers funding and expertise to help municipalities design and implement a custom program that will reflect their community, engage the public, and demonstrate the vibrancy of our province’s rich artistic heritage.
Designed to highlight the many ways in which art and artists can bring people together, share stories, and make our province a vibrant place to live and play, Our Creative Home is designed to drive community collaboration and foster opportunities for NL municipalities to champion art that reflects the diverse identities and perspectives of their communities.
“To help celebrate the Year of the Arts, our government is pleased to announce $200,000 to support a joint initiative between Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador, and Business and Arts NL. This initiative will provide municipalities with the opportunity to promote the wealth and diversity of public art and public interactions with art in our province.” – Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs
“The opportunity to support 12 communities in their work to welcome artists, commission artworks, and engage their communities is such an exciting one for us at Business and Arts NL. We look forward to supporting all of the participants in creating projects that are the right scale and tone for their communities, and to highlighting so much artistic talent along the way.” – Amy Henderson, Executive Director, Business and Arts NL
“Our communities have deep and rich cultural histories. We are thrilled to partner with Business and Arts NL on this project to tell the stories of our municipalities through creative and artistic expression.” – Amy Coady, President, Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador
