Province’s Largest Gathering of Municipal Leaders Happening This Week
For Immediate Release
Oct. 23, 2023
The 73rd Annual Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador Conference, Trade Show and AGM is the province’s largest municipal sector gathering, with 650 people filling the St. John’s Convention Centre for four days of sessions, discussions, and networking from October 25-28.
Municipalities across the province are currently dealing with multiple crises, including housing, infrastructure, fire services, climate adaptation, and drinking water, all of which are complicated by fiscal and legislative barriers. Municipal leaders will be discussing these issues and more during the MNL conference.
The Conference kicks off with the Leadership Summit for women and gender-diverse individuals on Wednesday evening. This year’s Leadership Summit focuses on allyship in the municipal sector – what it is, why it matters, and how we can all be better allies.
Following the Leadership Summit, all delegates are invited to attend a screening of Come Home Queer, preceded by a discussion with director Gerry Rogers.
On Friday, municipal leaders have the opportunity to discuss municipal concerns directly with Federal and Provincial Government ministers during the Ministerial Meet and Greet, followed by the Premier’s Forum.
Research and data gathering are an important aspect of determining the best path forward for our province’s municipalities, which is why MNL is thrilled to see the launch of Memorial University’s Hub for the Study of Local Governance happening during the Friday luncheon.
The Trade Show includes more than 70 organizations with connections to the municipal sector. MNL thanks all participating businesses and organizations for their support. We also gratefully acknowledge the support of our sponsors.
The 2023 MNL Conference is a carbon neutral event, thanks to the support of Sharp Management and Wetland Treatment Solutions.
“MNL’s annual conference is an opportunity for our members to discuss the important issues facing the municipal sector, as we collectively work toward a sustainable future for all municipalities.” – Amy Coady, MNL President
