JUNE IS PRIDE MONTH
WHEREAS The Rainbow Pride Flag is raised in celebration of Pride Month, and to honour LGBTQ2S+ Community Members of the Town of ___________________. The colours of the flag represent the diversity of the LGBTQ2S+ Community. The colour Red signifies life; Orange is healing; Yellow is sunlight; Green represents nature; Blue symbolizes serenity, peace and harmony; and, Purple represents spirit; and,
WHEREAS June is Pride Month, to recognize and commemorate the Stonewall Uprising in June 1969 in New York City, which sparked the social movement for human rights of lesbian and gay people; and,
WHEREAS During Pride Month, the world’s LGBTQ2S+ communities come together to celebrate sexual diversity and the freedom to be themselves, to overcome prejudice and be accepted for who they are; and,
WHEREAS Pride Month is a movement to protest discrimination and violence, to promote dignity, equal rights, self-affirmation and a way of increasing awareness of the issues the LGBTQ2S+ people face; and,
WHEREAS Pride Month raises awareness and understanding of the LGBTQ2S+ Community while promoting equity, inclusivity and a greater acceptance of diversity; and,
WHEREAS TheTown of ___________________is honouring Pride Month as June, 2019, to support, recognize and celebrate contributions and diversity of the LGBTQ2S+ people to our communities; and,
THEREFORE, I, _____________,Mayor of the Town of ___________________,do hereby proclaim the Month of June, 2019, to be ___________ Pride Month in the Town of ___________________, and encourage residents to commit to continuing awareness, inclusion, and acceptance for all members of our Community regardless of gender identity, race, age and beliefs.
