Brian Coleman

Housing Capacity Building Officer

Hailing from the beautiful west coast city of Corner Brook, Brian Coleman joins Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador as the Housing Capacity Building Officer for the Western, Northern, and Labrador zones.

Graduating from the last class of Regina High School, Brian started his post-secondary education at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College where he completed introductory courses and was a lifeguard.

Liking this lifesaving training, and work, Brian then went to Bay St. George Campus of College of the North Atlantic where he completed a certificate in Primary Care Paramedicine. He worked as a paramedic in various western Newfoundland communities, and at industrial sites in Alberta. Brian also completed a Political Science degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, along with a Business Administration degree from Grenfell Campus.

A lifelong volunteer, Brian has volunteered with many community organizations, including various sporting events such as the 1999 Corner Brook Winter Games, International Triathlon Union World Cup Triathlons, Ironman, and Ultra Marathons. Brian has extensive volunteer experience in emergency services. He has been a member of the local Canadian Red Cross Personal Disaster Assistance Team, and St. John Ambulance Medical First Responder Brigade. He draws immense fulfillment from his ongoing 15-year volunteer career with Bay of Islands Search and Rescue. He believes some of the most outstanding people can be found in the various volunteer organizations that give back so much to our communities. He is humbled and honoured to see the dedication of the fellow volunteers that he is privileged to work beside.

In 2021, he was hired as an Elections Assistant with the City of Corner Brook where he helped coordinate the September municipal election. Brian just completed a two-year stint as the program administrator at the Environmental Policy Institute (EPI) at Grenfell Campus. During his time at EPI, Brian has had the pleasure of supporting many of the faculty and graduate students who conduct invaluable research in community engagement, environmental affairs, arts, fisheries, and even housing-related issues. Brian has been on various working groups such as the Graduate Committees for the Masters of Environmental Policy, and the campus PhD Transdisciplinary Sustainability programs. Brian was the Administrative Staff representative for the School of Science and the Environment’s Committee for Academic Programming, and Academic Council.

Brian is looking forward to bringing his passion, dedication, and commitment back to the municipal landscape and is enthusiastic to start making meaningful, positive impacts to effectively address the province’s housing needs.
