Burlington

Central

Burlington, Newfoundland and Labrador, is a masterclass in the “rural renaissance.” Tucked into the rugged coastline of the Baie Verte Peninsula, this small outport town of roughly 300 residents has evolved from a traditional fishing and logging community into one of Atlantic Canada’s most compelling boutique destinations.

The town’s identity is defined by a striking contrast: the raw, ancient beauty of the North Atlantic paired with a modern, artistic soul. Burlington gained national attention through the vision of local son and comedian Shaun Majumder, whose ‘Ome project introduced high-end glamping to the area. This initiative bridged the gap between the town’s humble roots and a new era of “luxe-wilderness” tourism, inviting visitors to sleep in stylish, off-grid tents tucked among the balsam firs and granite cliffs.

Geographically, Burlington is a playground for the senses. In late spring, massive icebergs frequently drift through the bay like slow-moving cathedrals. By summer, the town hums with visitors seeking the serenity the town brings.

What truly sets Burlington apart, however, is its resilience. While many rural outports face decline, Burlington has leaned into its authenticity. It remains a place where you can watch a local craftsman haul a boat in the morning and enjoy a gourmet, fire-cooked meal by night. It is a destination that doesn’t just offer a place to stay—it offers a sense of belonging, wrapped in the salty air and rugged charm of the “Deep North.”
