Glenburnie-Birchy Head-Shoal Brook

Western

Set along the quiet shoreline of the South Arm of Bonne Bay in Gros Morne National Park, the Town of Glenburnie–Birchy Head–Shoal Brook (GBS) is the first community to greet you as you explore the south side of the park. With sweeping coastal views and rich heritage, GBS is the natural starting point for adventures toward Woody Point and Trout River.

A fjord carved by ancient glaciers, Bonne Bay has always been central to the identity of the region—its waters supporting fishing families, its beaches and coves shaping settlement, and its culture inspiring generations of storytellers. Locals and visitors alike head out on the water to fish, explore resettled coves, watch for wildlife, or simply take in the majestic views that define this part of Gros Morne National Park.

GBS carries a strong connection to the forestry traditions that once shaped life along the South Arm. Glenburnie’s logging history, closely tied to the operations in nearby Lomond, is remembered through family stories and a few local sawmills that still operate in the community.

Start Your South Side Adventure:

  • Middle Brook Falls – A local favourite and true hidden gem. This forest lined waterfall tumbles into a clear, refreshing swimming hole—perfect for cooling off on a summer afternoon.
  • Glenburnie Beach Boardwalk – A peaceful shoreline walk where you can watch the tides of Bonne Bay, spot seabirds at the estuary, or enjoy the view of the Tablelands rising in the distance.
  • GMTRIP’s “Seven Corners” Storytelling Structure – A creative stop that shares local voices and stories, connecting visitors and residents to the culture and history of the region.

Whether you’re chasing waterfalls, strolling the boardwalk, exploring local stories, or heading deeper into Gros Morne, GBS offers the perfect blend of natural beauty, heritage, and quiet coastal charm.
