Join Kerry Power, Director of 911 Division, and Danielle Christopher, Manager of Medical Communications, Medavie Health NL, to discuss the 911 and PMCC emergency call handling process for those needing ambulance response in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The public are encouraged to call 911 when there is a threat to health, life, safety or property. 911 is a call answer and transfer service, where the primary role is to connect the caller to the emergency service provider (ESP) they need and then notify any other ESP who may also need to respond. The Provincial Medical Communications Ctr (PMCC) is responsible for dispatching ambulances for the province. They have trained dispatchers who receive callers transferred from 911 and are responsible for the dispatch and response of paramedics.
