Dale Colbourne

Northern Director Nominee
Mayor,
St. Lunaire-Griquet

I have dedicated many years to municipal government and public service, serving the Town of St. Lunaire-Griquet and working to improve the lives of residents throughout my community and the Northern Region.

Throughout my 20 years of service, I have demonstrated a strong commitment to representing the interests of municipalities, addressing community concerns, and advocating for opportunities that help build stronger, more sustainable communities. My experience in municipal government has given me a clear understanding of the challenges towns face, including infrastructure, funding, essential services, economic growth, and maintaining vibrant communities.

Since joining Town Council in St. Lunaire-Griquet in 2006, I have been proud to dedicate many years of my life to municipal government, including 12 years serving as Mayor. It has been an honour to represent my community, work alongside fellow councillors, and be part of the many decisions and projects that help shape our town’s future.

During my time on Council, I have worked to strengthen relationships within our community and improve the services and infrastructure available to our residents.

One of my important accomplishments has been developing a strong working relationship between Town Council and our Fire Department. Before my leadership, that relationship was strained at best. Through communication and cooperation, I have helped establish a much more productive relationship between Council and the Department.

I also served as Chair of the St. Lunaire-Griquet Ambulance Service, where I developed an excellent working relationship with the organization.  Recognizing the importance of a strong municipal workforce, I also helped ensure that personnel policies were developed for Town employees, creating a more structured and professional workplace.

My dedication extends well beyond our municipality. I currently serve as Chair of NorPenWaste Management and sits on numerous boards and organizations, including:

• International Grenfell Association
• CBDC
• SABRI
• Chamber of Commerce
• Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador Board
• Joint Council for the Northern Peninsula

My willingness to serve in these roles demonstrates my commitment to the broader region as well as my own community.

I am most proud of finding the idea for a Public Dispensing Water Unit for our community.

This initiative has been a tremendous success and is the first of its kind in this area. It is an excellent example of how I have identified a community need and finding a creative solution that provides a lasting benefit to residents.

Under my leadership, the Town has also successfully applied for funding and completed numerous significant projects, including:

• A new sewer system for residents living on Dark Tickle Road and Harbourview Road
• A new fire truck for our Fire Department
• Upgrades to the sewer lift station
• Major renovations to the Municipal Building, including new windows, siding and a new furnace
• New furniture, desks, chairs and computers for the Municipal Building
• An extension to the Fire Hall
• Steps constructed to the water reservoir, providing easier and safer access for our maintenance crew
• A completely new playground with new equipment for the children of our community
• A new phase of sewer infrastructure for residents living on Pier Drive
• New Backhoe
• New town maintenance truck

These projects represent substantial and lasting improvements to our community. They demonstrate my ability to identify needs, pursue funding opportunities and work with Council and others to turn ideas into reality.

As Northern Director, I have worked to bring the concerns of municipalities forward, ensure their voices are heard, and encourage communication and cooperation among communities across the region. I believe that while every municipality has its own unique needs and priorities, many of the challenges they face are shared. Through collaboration and regional representation, I believe communities can work together to find solutions and create positive opportunities for the future.

My approach to leadership is grounded in listening, advocacy, cooperation, and a genuine commitment to municipal affairs. I understand the importance of ensuring that municipalities have a voice at the table when decisions are being made that affect their residents, services, and long-term sustainability.

I am proud of the opportunity to serve my community and the Northern Region. I recognize that there is still much work to be done and remain committed to strengthening relationships among municipalities, bringing forward regional concerns, and advocating for the resources and support communities need to thrive.

As I seek re-election as Northern Director, I bring years of municipal experience, knowledge of the challenges facing northern communities, and a continued commitment to working alongside mayors, councillors, and municipal representatives throughout the region.

My guiding belief is that progress comes through working together, listening to one another, and ensuring every community has a voice.

My commitment remains clear: to listen, represent, advocate, and work together toward stronger communities and a stronger Northern Region.
