Tara believes that strong municipalities are the foundation of strong communities. As a candidate for MNL’s Central Director, she is committed to ensuring municipalities throughout Central Newfoundland have a voice, their concerns are heard, and their priorities are represented.
I am pleased to put my name forward for the position of Central Director on the Board of Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador.
Having served on Gander Town Council since 2017, I understand both the opportunities and challenges that come with municipal leadership. Municipalities are on the front lines of delivering essential services, maintaining infrastructure, supporting local development, and building communities where people want to live, work, and raise their families.
While our communities may differ in size, resources, and priorities, we share many of the same challenges. Rising costs, aging infrastructure, housing, economic development, and the growing demands placed on municipal governments require strong representation and a collective voice.
I believe MNL plays an important role in bringing that voice forward and ensuring municipal perspectives are heard by other levels of government.
If elected as Central Director, my priority will be to listen to and advocate for the municipalities I represent. I want to build strong relationships with municipal leaders throughout Central Newfoundland, understand the issues that matter most to their communities, and help bring those concerns forward at the provincial level.
I recognize that smaller municipalities often face unique challenges, particularly when it comes to limited resources and the capacity to deliver services. It is important that every municipality, regardless of size, feels supported, included, and represented.
My years of service on Council, combined with my involvement in community organizations and major regional events, have reinforced my belief in the importance of collaboration. We can accomplish much more when we work together, share ideas, and advocate for common priorities.
I would welcome the opportunity to bring that same collaborative approach to the MNL Board.
I am committed to being an accessible, engaged, and effective representative for Central Newfoundland municipalities and to working alongside fellow municipal leaders to strengthen communities throughout our region.
I would appreciate your support and the opportunity to serve as your Central Director.
