A lifelong Labradorian, I was born and raised in Red Bay in the Labrador Straits and have had the privilege of living and working in communities throughout Labrador.
My husband and I moved to the Labrador West area in 2015 when my role with the College of the North Atlantic transferred to the Labrador West Campus. Over the past 30-plus years with the College, I have enjoyed living and working in communities throughout Labrador, including Wabush, Labrador City, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Nain, Makkovik, and Rigolet.
Giving back to the communities where we live is important to me, and I have done so through volunteer work and community involvement. In addition to serving as a councillor, I volunteer with the Labrador Health Centre Hospital Auxiliary, whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Labrador West. Since moving to the region, I have also been actively involved with the Labrador West Craft Guild as both a crafter and board member. During the summer months, I have volunteered with the junior golf program.
Over the past year as a Labrador Region Board Member with Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador (MNL), I have had the opportunity to learn firsthand how important regional representation is in ensuring Labrador communities are heard. What began as a desire to learn more about MNL and its role in municipal governance has grown into a strong commitment to serving municipalities throughout Labrador.
In March, I co-facilitated a regional meeting that brought together AngajukKâks, mayors, councillors, and municipal staff from across Labrador. The meeting provided an important forum for communities to share their priorities, concerns, and challenges directly with MNL and other presenters. This experience reinforced the importance of collaboration, advocacy, and ensuring that Labrador’s unique perspectives are heard.
Throughout my career and volunteer involvement, I have proudly advocated for and supported Labrador and its communities. It would be an honour to continue representing Labrador municipalities on the MNL Board and to ensure your voices are heard. I respectfully ask for your support and consideration for the position of Labrador Director.
