Newfoundland and Labrador Municipalities are confronting increasingly complex combinations of extreme wind, flooding, storm surge, erosion, wildfire and infrastructure disruption. Drawing on recent events, including Hurricane Fiona’s impact on Newfoundland and Labrador’s west coast and the province’s 2025 wildfires, this session will examine how a single hazard can cascade across roads, power, communications, water and wastewater systems, emergency access and local economies. Participants will explore practical approaches municipalities can use to identify critical dependencies, strengthen infrastructure and operational resilience, improve emergency continuity, and align capital planning, insurance and recovery financing before the next event occurs.
