MNL Celebrates Successful 75th Conference, Trade Show and AGM

For Immediate Release
Nov. 24, 2025

As the 75th annual Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador Conference, Trade Show and AGM comes to a close in Corner Brook, we look back on the past week with fond memories and look forward to continuing the work of progressing the municipal sector.

We were pleased to welcome Premier Wakeham to speak at the Appreciation Banquet and at the Intergovernmental Breakfast. We were equally pleased to welcome Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs Chris Tibbs to speak at the Friday luncheon. Additionally, we thank all MHAs in attendance at the 2025 MNL Conference.

During the Women and Gender Diverse Individuals Networking Breakfast, we honoured former St. John’s council member Shannie Duff, and awarded the first Shannie Duff Inspiration Awards to Mayor Linda Chaisson, Mayor Kelly Power, Councillor Leann Goodyear, and Mayor Tammy Fifield. The Achievement award was awarded to Mayor Erica Humber-Shears.

The following board members have been elected to a two-year term: Vice President Isabelle Fry, and Small Towns Director Lynn Ellsworth.

The following board members have been elected to a one-year term, due to previous mid-term resignations: Avalon Director Nicole Kieley, and Western Director Cynthia Downey.

Finance Director Michelle Peach, Law Director Jonathan Dale, and Human Resources Director Alex Gibson were all approved by the membership to serve a one-year term.

Resolutions voted on by members at the Annual General Meeting are a core driver of MNL’s advocacy work. During the AGM, resolutions were passed to provide remuneration for firefighters; preventing harassment of municipal elected officials and staff; strengthening supports for municipal code of conduct processes; funding eligibility for risk mitigation pre-work in municipal infrastructure projects ; review of the Municipal Elections Act to address issues of accessibility and protection of privacy; reimbursement of municipal campaign expenses; and the regulation of e-bikes.

MNL thanks our members, guests, sponsors, trade show exhibitors, and partner organizations for their support in helping to make the 2025 Conference, Trade Show and AGM a success.

“Our members are the heart of MNL. Their leadership, collaboration, and commitment to their communities drive our collective success. As we look ahead, our focus remains clear: to strengthen the municipal sector, build capacity, and advocate for the resources, respect, and recognition that local governments deserve.” – Councillor Amy Coady, MNL President
