Since summer 2026, the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs has been engaging with municipalities, returning officers, stakeholders, and residents across Newfoundland and Labrador as part of its review of the Municipal Elections Act. The consultation is still in its early stages. This session will share what we are hearing so far, with a focus on issues that affect candidates.
The feedback received so far will help guide the next steps in the review, including the development of a future engageNL questionnaire. As more people take part, their input will help inform possible recommendations aimed at ensuring the legislation continues to support fair, accessible, and trusted municipal elections for municipalities, candidates, election officials, and voters.
