MNL’s resolutions are a powerful tool for shaping advocacy priorities and driving meaningful change for municipalities across the province. This interactive session will guide members through the process of developing effective resolutions, including understanding resolution classifications, identifying issues that resonate across the municipal sector or within specific regions, and framing proposals for maximum impact.

Participants will be encouraged to collaborate with neighbouring communities and peers to explore shared challenges and begin shaping resolutions on key issues affecting their municipalities. By starting the conversation early, members will leave prepared to refine and submit strong, well-considered resolutions well in advance of the conference deadline.

Outcomes:

  • Understand the purpose and role resolutions have in shaping MNL advocacy priorities and influencing provincial decision-making.
  • Identify and apply MNL’s resolution classification system to ensure submissions align with sector priorities.
  • Recognize the key components of an effective resolution, including clear problem statements, supporting rationale, and actionable outcomes.
  • Differentiate between local issues and sector-wide priorities, and frame resolutions to reflect broader municipal relevance.
  • Collaborate with other municipalities to develop joint resolutions addressing shared challenges.
  • Navigate available MNL tools, templates, and resources to support successful resolution development.
