Professional Development Session presented by First Light St. John’s Friendship Centre

For over a decade First Light St. John’s Friendship Centre has offered Cultural Diversity Training to individuals and organizations across Newfoundland and Labrador and further afield.

This 3-hour Indigenous Cultural Diversity Training offers an introduction to the rich, unique and diverse Indigenous groups, cultures and histories of our province. The session covers a comprehensive range of topics including cultural humility, understanding culture, key statistics and terminology, an overview of Indigenous groups, symbols, ceremonies, and the role of elders. The training will also address the impacts of colonization and the Indian Act, residential schools, confederation, intergenerational trauma, cultural appropriation, tokenism, culturally insensitive phrases, stereotypes, and myths. The training provides time for participant questions and concludes with a certificate and resource list.

This format is ideal for those seeking a thorough introduction to Indigenous history, culture, and contemporary issues.
