MNL congratulates new Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Municipalities

St. John’s, NL – Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador congratulates Derek Bennett on his appointment as Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Municipalities under the new government of Premier Andrew Furey.

MNL is actively engaged with the department on several key files, including drinking water and wastewater infrastructure, municipal fiscal stability and reform and regionalization. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, MNL has been working with departmental staff to ensure that its members have the information and the resources that they need to lead.

“We look forward to continuing this important work with Minister Bennett and his department,” says MNL President Sheila Fitzgerald. “We know the importance of having a seat, and a voice, at the table where decisions impacting the municipal sector are made. This is how we want to move forward with this new government.”
