Events

Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador hosts several municipal sector events each year. These events are a combination of professional development, advocacy and program updates, presentations from community partners and supporters, and networking opportunities.

Municipal Symposium

Held at the Quality Hotel in Gander in the Spring of each year – typically during the first week of May – the Municipal Symposium is focused on best practices in the municipal sector, with a particular emphasis on providing informational updates from key partners and stakeholders, plus professional development sessions to build capacity in the municipal sector. In-person connections are a large part of MNL’s events, and each Symposium provides several times throughout the day for conversations with municipal sector colleagues and partners.

MNL Conference, Trade Show, and AGM

Held each fall – typically at the beginning of November – MNL’s Conference is the largest municipal sector gathering in the province. The conference includes professional development and networking opportunities, while also covering broader municipal sector issues.

Regional Meetings

MNL’s membership is segmented into six regions – Avalon, Eastern, Central, Western, Northern, and Labrador. Regional meetings are an opportunity to discuss shared issues amongst nearby communities and to connect with municipal colleagues. The sessions focus on ground-level topics relevant to the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of council and administrators.

Urban Municipality Committee Meetings

Council members and administrators from municipalities with populations above 3,000 gather for a two-day meeting to discuss urban issues, build partnerships, connect with colleagues, and discover the latest best practices in the municipal sector. The meeting location rotates among member municipalities.
